Weekly 2-hour ensemble classes meet:
Mondays at 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm
Tuesdays at 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm
The focus is on developing improvisational skills through an examination of chord/scale relationships, rhythm and phrase building using such concepts as Barry Harris’ ‘extra note rules’ and related dominant 7ths. With application to jazz standards.
Open to all instrumentalists. Placement is by audition.
Weekly 2-hour class meets Mondays at 8:00 pm
Vocalists meet each week with a rhythm section.
The focus is on phrasing and the use of various rhythmic devices (including rubato and feeling the time in ‘six’) as they apply to the different jazz song forms. As well intros, endings, improvisation, basic music theory and ways of communicating ideas to the other musicians are explored.

Meets Wednesdays from 6 to 7:30pm
Focus is on voicings, chord movements and applications to tunes, based on Barry Harris’ sixth-diminished scale/chord theory.
*Workshop chord players are required to attend at least once a month.
