Instrumental Section: 6pm – 8pm. Focus is on building improvisational skills using concepts drawn from the Barry Harris method, with application to various standards. Auditions are required for all non-jazz workshop members.
Vocal Section: 8pm – 10pm. Focus is on strengthening your concept through examining time/rhythm, phrasing, intros, endings and communicating effectively with the other musicians. Joined by piano trio.

Master Musician Barry Harris known around the globe as the musician’s musician – and for his ‘mapping’ of bebop has devoted much of his time over the past sixty years to teaching instrumentalists and vocalists the necessary elements of jazz improvisation including chord and scale relationships, chord movement, harmony, phrasing and ‘the way of jazz’.
Choosing to remain true to the music throughout a brilliant career, Dr. Harris has both performed with the other giants of the music and played a key role in the development of several generations of jazz musicians.
Dr. Harris’ clinics are legendary throughout the world and have become much anticipated events in Toronto. What began as a modest locally attended affair in 1984, now regularly draws participants from across Canada, the U.S. and Europe.
